Není to tak dlouho, co zde vyšel článek o WordPress.com, tedy blogovacím systému běžícím na WordPressu, který provozuje společnost Automattic Inc., mimo jiné hlavní vývojář WordPressu.
Za rok 2010 hlasil WordPress.com 6 milionů nových blogů a 23 miliard zobrazených stránek.
Nyní jich zobrazuje 12 miliard za jediný měsíc.
Na WordPress.som je aktuálně téměř 71 milionů blogů, které každý měsíc navštíví 377 milionů čtenářů a vloží při tom přes 62 milionů komentářů. Sami autoři blogů vyprodukují za měsíc zhruba 38 milionů příspěvků ve více jak 120 jazycích.
Nejpoužívanějším jazykem je angličtina (66 %) následována s velkým odstupem španělštinou (8,7 %) a portugalštinou (6,5 %). Ostatní jazyky mezi top desítkou se drží na úrovni okolo jednoho procenta.
WordPress.com tedy stále roste a nemusíme se u něj obávat toho, co se v minulosti stalo podobným systémům (zde článek o konci Bloguje nebo Posterous).
Po založení účtu na WordPress.com se uživatel dostane na klasickou přihlašovací stránku WordPressu, kterou známe s vlastních instalací open-source WordPress.org. Ve skutečnosti si totiž skutečně nový blog na WordPressu založil. (Použita funkce Multi-WordPressu, která je běžně součástí WP od verze 3.0.)
Kromě běžných funkcí nabízí WordPress.com další doplňky sloužící k rozvoji komunity. Jde například o možnost odebírat příspěvky z jiných blogů přímo ve vlastní administraci nebo o správu komentářů, které sám uživatel napsal na jiné blogy v rámci systému.
Omezení spočívá v tom, že nejde o vlastní instalaci systému a uživatel tudíž nemá práva správce. Nemůže instalovat nové motivy vzhledu, pluginy, a nemůže zasahovat do zdrojových kódů.
When you’re migrating WordPress (or any other platform using serialized PHP strings in the database) between domains, you must use a safe search and replace method that preserves the integrity of the serialized string lengths. A simple of a dump file for http://localhost to, for example, http://thenewdomain.com is problematic because the length of the string changes but the indexes for the serialized strings does not. Consequently settings are lost and widgets disappear. Not good.
This script can now also handle multiply nested serializations, which can happen in transient values in WP at times, and it can also handle multi-byte Unicode changes safely. This is important now that internationalised domain names are allowed.
It’s worth mentioning that the code will work for any platform that stores PHP serialized arrays in a MySQL database. You can easily use this script on Drupal, Joomla and many other systems where you need to change items across a database without messing up your stored arrays.
